Swerim and the SMT division, Kanthal, recently inaugurated their joint investment – an ultra-modern atomiser unit – to research and develop materials and atomising processes. The investment meets the increased demand for research opportunities around material and process development in additive manufacturing (AM) and powder metallurgy.
The atomiser unit makes it possible to atomise powder batches up to about 85 kg for AM, injection moulding, surface coatings, and hot isostatic pressing (HIP). The equipment will have high material and process flexibility, “creating vast opportunities to develop materials and processes in both AM and powder metallurgy,” according to the companies.
