Salzgitter and Mendritzki Agree on Partnership

Salzgitter AG and Mendritzki Holding GmbH & Co. KG have signed an innovative partnership agreement. The partnership builds on their longstanding business relationship, extending to low-CO2 steel products and downstream product processing.

The Salzgitter Group’s partnership programme offers companies the possibility of securing a defined tonnage of green steel upfront as part of an economic commitment. This green steel will be produced and delivered from the end of 2025 as part of SALCOS® – Salzgitter Low CO2-Steelmaking. Both companies intend to cooperate in advancing and refining the development of steel grades.

As a company in the cold rolling industry, the Mendritzki Group is a key customer of Salzgitter AG. Mendritzki expects its suppliers to deliver superior quality input material. Both companies achieve the highest standards in terms of quality and sustainable production. The two companies share a common goal of occupying leading positions in CO2 reduction in steel production and processing.

Salzgitter AG intends to gradually switch to a hydrogen-based steel production route as part of the SALCOS® – Salzgitter Low CO2-Steelmaking project to massively reduce its steel production CO2 emissions. In contrast to the blast furnace process, hydrogen and green electricity will replace the carbon formerly required for steel production. Salzgitter AG plans to incrementally lower its steel production CO2 emissions to less than five per cent of the original volume through the new process.
