Sandvik acquires software provider

DCS Sandvik has acquired US-based Dimensional Control Systems (DCS), a provider of metrology quality management software and on-site engineering services. DCS’s offering will complement and expand Sandvik’s existing metrology portfolio, Sandvik announced in a statement. The company will be reported in the Industrial Metrology division within the Sandvik Manufacturing and Machining Solutions business area.

DCS’s software solutions include CAD simulation tools “that enable customers to improve and validate their component design and measurement plan – resulting in reduced scrap, rework, downtime and non-conformance issues,” Sandvik explains. The company is a partner to many major OEMs and other manufacturers worldwide, he says. It has more than 400 software customers in the automotive, aerospace, high-tech electronics, medical device and industrial machinery sectors, with a total of 10,000 licences. Software revenue accounts for 65 per cent of total revenue, of which 40 per cent is recurring.

Dimensional Control Systems is headquartered in Troy, Michigan, USA, and has a worldwide network of distributors and resellers. In 2020, the company employed about 70 people, had sales of about SEK 92m (USD 10m) and an EBITA margin that was neutral to that of Sandvik Manufacturing and Machining Solutions.
