New Bloom for Continuous Casting

Sidenor will soon expand its Basauri plant with a new 600-mm diameter round bloom format, manufactured for continuous casting. The aim is to start producing the new 600-mm bloom format in September 2022.

This new range of by-products is a continuation of the project initiated in 2018, in the first phase of which investments were made in 410 mm and 525 mm-diameter formats, and enables Sidenor “to access new products with a high added value for its customers and augment its steel catalogue with elements which differentiate the company from its competitors,” the company explains.

The scheduled improvement in continuous bloom casting means purchasing new moulds and agitators, modifying dragging modules, and increasing the transferor load capacity to move products of up to 13 tonnes.

The auxiliary equipment used for logistics in this new section will be accommodated by adapting the existing magnets in the billet storage. New platforms will be built to enable the safe transport and storage of material, and the mould workshop will be refurbished according to the new needs.
