Omron and AWL form strategic partnership

The dynamic welding industry market is growing year on year. The increasing shortage of welding expertise and the increasing demand for flexible and safe welding machines are also forcing the technology to continue to innovate. This is why Omron and AWL have combined forces and decided “to enter into a global partnership to develop and distribute a truly mature cobot welding solution: Qube,” the companies announced in a statement.

AWL has expertise in process improvements and welding, while Omron’s strength lies in automation solutions that support humans and machines. This partnership has resulted in the development of this flexible cobot welding cell.

”Until now, there were really only two robot welding methods used in the automation industry: high-end robot welding cells or low-threshold cobots mounted on a pedestal. The robot welding cell is highly suitable for producing large numbers, but the investment is too high for many companies,” says Tom Vrugteveen, Sales Engineer at AWL. By contrast, cobots mounted on a pedestal are the best option for smaller series. “But what if, as a producer, you fall in this category, and you manufacture a series of between 100 and 1,000 units containing various product types? What if you would be able to grow due to the rising demand for products, but you have a limited number of in-house welding specialists?” This is exactly where the challenge lies. According to Vrugteveen, this is where the Qube—a welding cell with a cobot—comes in handy.
